ABOUT HIM
Bruce Springsteen is an iconic American Singer / Song Writer and music artist.
“The best music is essentially there to provide you something to face the world with.” To millions of his fans he is the greatest live rock and roll performer of them all - and there is no doubt that Springsteen brought a new level of dynamism to rock concerts during his performing heyday in the Seventies and early-mid Eighties. For simple energy, attack and consummate artistry, he was unsurpassed. Born into a working class family in New Jersey, he starting playing with rock bands in his teens, and assembled his group, the legendary E-Street Band. His 1973 debut album Greetings from Asbury Park (a beachside town in New Jersey) gained him attention as a performer and songwriter, with memorable tracks like For You and Spirits In The Night. His second, The Wild, The Innocent and the E Street Shuffle, included tracks like the jazzy New York Serenade, and the street-gang operetta Lost In The Flood. Springsteen was already showing an ability to evoke New York streetlife with a rare poetic sensibility. He cracked international stardom in 1975 with the Born To Run album, with the exuberant, hard-driving title song and other equally strong tracks like Thunder Road. Springsteen was suddenly everywhere - on the covers of news magazines, and hailed as the future of rock and roll. Later albums were more sombre and introspective, including the Darkness on The Edge of Town, and The River, but he kept a strong flow of poetic tracks coming, with minor classics like Stolen Car, Hungry Heart and Promised Land. Musical tastes moved on in the early Eighties, and some felt the time of The Boss, as he had been dubbed, was passing, but be came back with new albums and hit songs like Dancing In The Dark and Born In The USA. His haunting 1993 acoustic song Streets of Philadelphia, for the movie Philadelphia, won him the Oscar for Best Song. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1999, in the same year the re-formed E-Street band supported him on a sellout US tour. In 2005 he played in public in support of Democratic candidate John Kerry in his race against George W. Bush.
