ARTUR SCHNABEL
CLASSICAL MUSICIANS - AUSTRIA / USA (AMERICA)
Artur Schnabel (1882 - 1951) was a Polish born Austrian / American classical pianist, composer and music educator. He is considered to be one of greatest classical pianists of the 20th century who assisted in popularizing Beethoven as a composer when he performed all of Beethoven's works for the very first time as a complete recorded collection in 1932 making them finally available as records for public appreciation.
He was born in Lipnik in Poland at a time when it considered to be part of the Austro_Hungarian_Empire (today a part of Bielsko-Biała in Poland). At age 2 his parents moved to Vienna in Austria in 1884 where he took up piano at age 4 and was accepted in the Vienna conservatorium at age 6.
