ABOUT HIM:

MILES DAVIS
(1926-1991)
β€œDon't play what's there, play what's not there.” Born into an upper middle class African American family in Illinois, he started playing the trumpet while he was a boy, and dreamed of being a jazz great like Louis Armstrong. He studied classical music at Juilliard School in New York, but at night was out listening to frenetic be-bop in downtown clubs. He came to evolve his own style of cool jazz, with a dreamy sound and poetic quality, soon had his own following, and encouraged rising young stars like John Coltrane and Herbie Hancock. Later in his career he experimented with electronic music, and jazz-rock fusion.
