ABOUT HIM:

FRANK SINATRA
(Francis Albert Sinatra) (1915-1998)
The great American singer and film actor, “old blue eyes” was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, started performing in local clubs, and gained fame singing with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra in the 1940s. Renowned for his phrasing and timing, and his expression, he gave a new lease of life to an array of jazz and popular standards, introducing them to legions of young fans in postwar America. His obvious appeal to audiences led to his prompt recruitment by Hollywood, and his numerous film roles include the zesty musical On The Town (1949), his Oscar-winning performance in From Here To Eternity (1953), the The Man With The Golden Arm (1955), the Cole Porter musical High Society (1956), and the drama The Manchurian Candidate (1962). During the 1950s and 1960s he was part of a cabbbal of performers including Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Peter Lawford which became known as the Rat Pack, infamous for its recreational exploits. Sinatra was a regular performer in Las Vegas casinos, and his connections led to suspicions of links with the Mafia. He was married several times, including to the actresses Ava Gardner and Mia Farrow, and his daughter Nancy Sinatra enjoyed a short pop career of her own, with hits including Somethin’ Stupid (a duet with her father). Sinatra’s voice remained true into his latter decades, and he retained great appeal to concert audiences. Among the songs he is best known for are I Get a Kick Out of You, The Way You Look Tonight, Let's Fall in Love, Love and Marriage, New York, New York, and the song with which he is most closely identified, My Way. “I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.”
