ABOUT THEM:

Adelaide band Vertical Hold played a bouncy brand of pop which earned
the group a strong following on home territory. Despite intermittent
bouts of interstate touring, Vertical Hold remained virtually unknown
throughout the rest of Australia. Classically trained Hillary Frost
added a touch of musical class to the band's bright, accessible sound.

Vertical Hold's debut single, ‘My Imagination’/‘You Send Me’, on RCA
(October 1981) reached #1 in Adelaide, which helped consolidate the
band's live popularity. WEA signed the band to a new deal in 1982
which resulted in the band's second #1 hit in Adelaide, ‘Tears of
Emotion’/‘In Your Life’ (October 1982). Vertical Hold's debut,
self-titled album (May 1984) produced three singles, ‘Shot Down (in
Love)’/‘Night Bite’ (October 1983), ‘This Must Be Love’/‘She Comes to
Me’ (February 1984) and ‘United States of America (USA)’/‘Teacher
Teach Me’ (July). Once again the records sold well in South Australia,
but continued indifference from audiences further afield led to
Vertical Hold's break-up in 1985.
