ABOUT THEM:

Simon and Garfunkel grew up in the same New York neighbourhood and performed together on an off until their breakthrough hit The Sounds of Silence (1966). The delicate, intense introspection of the song found a ready audience among the questioning, politicised and alienated youth of the Sixties. The folk-rock duo followed with songs which continued to tap a rich vein of mid Sixties sentiment including I Am A Rock, Homeward Bound, and the gentle, beautifully evocative Scarborough Fair. They wrote music for the late Sixties movie blockbuster The Graduate (starring Dustin Hoffman as a the gruaduate who just can’t face a career in plastics) including the hit song Mrs Robinson. Their careers began to diverge as the decade came to an end, but their last album Bridge Over Troubled Waters included several chart topping songs including the title track, Cecilia and The Boxer. They both went on to successful solo careers, but never quite recaptured the magic of folk rock’s finest duo.
